Compulsive work-avoider

I have the end of summer blahs really bad. I can’t be bothered to do anything: work, knit, respond to email, etc. Ugh. I hope I snap out of it soon.

That doesn’t mean I haven’t done anything at all, however. Here’s the evidence:

The clapotis is great. I wear it every chance I get. And since signs of fall are popping up everywhere, I get plenty of chances. (What signs, you ask? I dunno, sometimes it seems like a can *smell* it, or I feel a cool breeze. Maybe I’m just weird, but I *love* the fall.)

Home sweet home

I know it looks like I’ve dropped off the face of the earth, but blogging and knitting aren’t high on my list of priorities right now. (Gasp!) We’ve had car problems, delays to our return to Detroit, a long trip back with only minor difficulties, and a dizzyingly fast researched, insured and purchased new car. Hello, debt, nice to meet you. Oh well, the excitement of a new car outweighs the prospect of *no* *new* *yarn* for a long time to come. I’ve got plenty of projects stored up to work on. Oh yeah, I also finished clapotis as soon as I got home and got my hands on the last skein of Noro I had to order. Pictures to come as soon as I pull myself together. (I’m still doing what seems like endless loads of laundry…)

Crap, part deux

I knew my sometimes cavalier attitude towards gauge would bite me in the ass someday. The other day I frogged what I had so far of the boobholder because I could see that the fit was going to be entirely wrong. And guess what? My gauge was pretty off. Since I started this project a few months ago, I don’t remember what was going through my head when I started. I think that because the pattern is very customizable for different sizes (just add or remove rows until it fits), I figured that I didn’t have to be too careful about getting gauge. I don’t think I even checked. Oh well, it was actually kind of fun to rip it all out. I gotta try scouting thrift stores for sweaters I can recycle, so I can do this more often. (Plus, cheap yarn!) Yesterday I knitted a few swatches and found that doubling the yarn and knitting on ten and a halfs gave me the gauge I want. So I’m trying again, and adding a few stitches at the beginning to make sure it’s big enough. The problem was what I thought should be more of a deep v-neck on the boobholder was more of a pushed-to-the-sides-of-my-chest-struggling-to-meet-underneath effect. Not attractive at all. I’m giving it one more go, but if it doesn’t work, I may consider making a one skein wonder instead with the same yarn.

Four more days and we’ll be back to Detroit! *whoot* I’ll be glad to be back with my stash and to receive my newest acquisitions from elann and ebay. And then I’ll be hitting the LYS to stock up on dpns for more sock knitting…

One pair down, two more to go…

Filed under: knitting — Marie @ 9:32 am

Last weekend I finished the ruffle ribbed socks. I haven’t gotten a chance to blog about it until now. Things are pretty busy, since we have less than two weeks left in D.C. I’m trying to finish both my internship and thesis work and running out of time! So, there isn’t much time for blogging or knitting. I’ve started on the braided cable socks and am almost ready to start the heel. I’m glad the socks go so quickly: I just heard that the baby shower will be around the end of September. And until then, I don’t think I’ll have time to knit much else. Since this is such a short entry, here are some action shots of the last sock in progress:
