Maybe if I don’t finish the socks on time I could say an alligator ate them. Actually, progress hasn’t been great, but I did stop on purpose before starting the heel. I’m not sure what kind of heel I’m going to make and will have to do some maths since I’m knitting at a finer gauge than what the pattern calls for.

Louisiana has been real nice. Remind me I said that if I start my doctoral studies here in August and moan and gripe about the heat. I made the astounding discovery that Louisiana isn’t all swamps and gators (as shown above – I was there!) like I’d thought. Lafayette reminds me of Ann Arbor (or any college town really) in way, but on a smaller scale. But with Cajuns. And a bayou in the middle of the campus. But it’s nice! I spent a lot of time walking around it this week, looking at the wildlife. (It’s pretty small.) I especially liked the turtles, who will swim right up to you and stick their heads out of the water, begging for food. So cute!

  1. A gator ate my socks! Although I’d wrestle a gator to get my knitting back…

  2. That would be an incredibly original excuse!
